August 26, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The second of a three-part series with international, national, and state and local perspectives

Thursday, August 26, 20214:00 – 5:30 p.m. CDT

Speaker: Dr. José Ramón Fernández-Peña, Director of Health Professions Advising at Northwestern University and President of the American Public Health Association

Moderator: Dr. Linda Rae Murray, Health & Medicine Board Member and Former President of the American Public Health Association

With vaccine uptake slowed, increased spread of the Delta variant, and shifting guidance on masking, COVID-19 continues to have widespread effects on our lives. Better planning and responses to the pandemic would have saved lives throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the ongoing and shifting public health crisis, what lessons can we learn from the experience so far? What went wrong with national planning, collaboration, and partnership in the U.S.? What went well? What improvements can we make to better address COVID-19 and to prepare for future public health crises?

Join Health & Medicine Policy Research Group for this second in a three-part series of forums focused on uncovering insights from the pandemic response, looking at global, national, and local levels. The forums will also look at how we can apply lessons from the pandemic to radically rethink and reshape the future of public health.

The forum will focus on the national perspective and will feature Dr. José Ramón Fernández-Peña, Director of Health Professions Advising at Northwestern University and President of the American Public Health Association. His presentation will be followed by a conversation with Dr. Linda Rae Murray regarding COVID-19 response and better planning for the future, with time for questions from the audience.

We invite all individuals who are interested in exploring this topic to attend, including those working in public health, healthcare, government, social service, and advocacy. Forum speakers will share key observations, lessons, and advice on the topic, as well as discuss the future of collaboration and partnership across the US for pandemic and other emergency preparedness and response.

Join us for the entire three-part series with international, national, and state and local perspectives on COVID-19.
